Frequently Asked Questions

What is Permanent Makeup?

Permanent makeup is a cosmetic technique that employs tattoos (permanent pigmentation of the dermis) as a means of producing designs that resemble makeup, such as eyelining and other permanent enhancing colors to the skin of the face, lips, and eyelids. It is also used to produce artificial eyebrows, particularly in people who have lost them as a consequence of old age, disease, such as alopecia totalis, chemotherapy, or a genetic disturbance, and to disguise scars and white spots in the skin such as in vitiligo. As well as to enhance the breast’s areola after breast surgery.

Why Permanent Makeup?

Permanent makeup is a helpful option for a variety of people whether they are looking for an enhancement and don’t have time to do makeup every morning or for those who have suffered from hair loss. It is also a great alternative for anyone looking to simplify their beauty routine, whether that’s getting out of bed and spending less time in front of the mirror, going to the gym, in a profession that dictates being in front of the camera or on stage frequently, or even going swimming without having to worry about their makeup coming off. Permanent makeup is also a great option for people who have a loss of vision or loss of motor skills due to aging or medical conditions.

What is Microblading?

Microblading (also referred to as Microstroking, Eyebrow Embroidery, Feather Stroke Brows, 3D Brows, Micropigmentation, etc) is the process of manually implanting color pigment beneath the surface of the skin by means of tiny, sterile, disposable needles to produce the appearance of hair strokes. It is ideal to cover scars and gaps, define shape, create an arch and fill in the brows. Microblading allows the construction of natural-looking eyebrows for people with very little or no brow hairs. This procedure can be used for both men and women. The needle used in manual microblading is 3 times thinner than the one used in a machine, which allows for the creation of very fine, crisp hair strokes that do not blur after healing.

Who is Microblading for?

Those who want to effortlessly look their best anytime. Busy moms, business women, or anyone with an active lifestyle.

How long will it last?

Permanent makeup is semi-permanent, as it will not wash off, however it will fade gradually over time. Skin type, lifestyle, and maintenance all play a part in the duration will be. Although results differ from client to client, it typically last on average between 1-3 years, with annual touch-ups recommended in order to refresh the pigment, redefine the strokes, and keep it looking good as new.

Does the procedure hurt?

The discomfort is relative as everyone has a different level of sensitivity. An anesthetic is applied for numbing during the procedure and every effort is made to ensure you remain comfortable for the duration of the procedure. Our clients are usually pleased to discover that it is no more painful than tweezing or threading, while some even fall asleep during the procedure.

Do my existing eyebrows need to be shaved off?

Most definitely NOT!! Please do not tweeze, thread, wax, or modify your eyebrows in any way for as long as possible, and no sooner than two weeks before the procedure. The beginning of your service includes a brief consultation, followed by shaping, and finally a discussion about color. Your regular brow maintenance of tweezing, threading, waxing, and/or tinting may continue once the brows have healed.

Is it Safe?

If proper sterilization and disinfection guidelines are met, permanent cosmetics should be completely safe. We pride ourselves on having an immaculate and sterile work space. We use 100% disposable tools. We are certified by Blood Borne Pathogens on an annual basis and are fully up to date with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Standards, and routinely attend their classes to stay well versed on their safety principles.

Is it Tattooing?

Permanent cosmetics, micropigmentation, dermal implantation, microblading/microstroking, eyebrow embroidery, and long-time/long-lasting makeup, are all different names for the same procedure - cosmetic tattooing. Any time pigment is placed in the skin with any device, it is a tattoo process as defined by many well-informed regulators, the medical community, and dictionary sources. Denying this process is a tattoo can be problematic for those who would, for religious or other personal reasons, normally refuse to have a tattoo.

How does Microblading Differ from a Traditional Tattoo?

Microblading is the manual method of eyebrow tattooing, differing from other forms of skin tattooing in terms of procedure, permanency, color, detail, and customization.  Unlike traditional tattooing performed with a machine tattoo gun that penetrates multiple dermal layers, microblading uses a handheld ‘microblade’ to deposit pigment into the superficial surface layer of the epidermis.  Because pigment is not implanted as deeply as a traditional tattoo, the hairstrokes fade gradually over time, making microblading semi-permanent.  Microblading produces the finest strokes to closely mimic real hairs, making it far more customizable than traditional tattooing.  Each individual hair stroke is hand-drawn and blended in with the clients existing eyebrow hair and pattern. This allows for multi-dimensional and natural results that are beautiful and very lifelike.
